What is it?In a nutshell, a listserv is a communication tool that offers its members the opportunity to post suggestions or questions to a large number of people at the same time. When you submit a question or something that you want to share to the listserv, your submission is distributed to all of the other people on that list.
Some general pointers about listservs:1. Messages sent to the listserv are sent to all subscribers. If you intend to send a message only to one person in the group or to the person who sent a previous message, be sure to respond to the individual’s email address, NOT the listserv address. Note that an automatic reply will go to the list (all subscribers), not to the individual who sent the message to which you are replying. In most cases, a reply to the list is appropriate and desired. This is a discussion group. See #2 below.
2. While the listserv is “closed,” individual subscribers are not prohibited from forwarding list messages beyond the subscribing group. This works like any other email. Therefore, you should be aware that the messages you intend to be confidential may not stay that way. It is always best to use discretion and to communicate sensitive information to indviduals rather than to the list. Staff members from OSEP and the National Parent Leadership Development Project for ICCs will have access to this list.3. Please use the subject line of your message to convey its contents as concisely and clearly as possible. Empty subject lines may be annoying to users and are not effective for attracting the attention of readers who may be interested in your topic.
